New Touch on SERO plan

Greetings eVolutionaries, junkies, team HTC...

Just in time I got the fair and friendly plan and a new Touch. Interestingly it seems to have outdated software.

Is this normal will the Sprint Store upgrade it? Should I try and get a replacement ie newer phone? Windows Update is no update.
After hooking up with you junkies I am ready to start in.
Can modding be detected by Sprint and affect my plan? I want to keep the $30 price. I got the touch to connect to work enterprise LDAP server and added 100+ contacts yesterday with difficulty w/ active sync. I thought e-mail would sync too but I can't get it. The server required adding strong password protection which is a pain so I deleted the account. Can't find how to turn off the lock.
I am running Vista Ultimate w/ Office Pro7. and installed 4G Patriot microSD cuz Fey's was out of the 8Gb
What is the first step, backup? Download Total Commander?
